Splitgate 2 is AAA, 1047 Games Expanded to Over 170 Employees

Splitgate experienced a surge of fanfare in 2021, blending "Halo" and "Portal" elements to a captivating effect. However, the multiplayer shooting game apparently didn't quite match up to larger competitors in the field. Developer 1047 Games acknowledges this, focusing on positioning the soon-to-be-launched Splitgate 2 as a comprehensive AAA production.

In a recent Xbox Wire post, 1047 Games’ chief of marketing, Hilary Goldstein, reinforced the team's endeavor to elevate Splitgate 2 beyond its predecessor, aiming for a bona fide AAA experience.

According to Goldstein, the goal of Splitgate 2 was to enhance its appeal. Namely, the team worked tirelessly over two years to create a game capable of competing with top-tier shooters.

Goldstein disclosed that to realize their vision for Splitgate 2, the studio grew remarkably, attracting experienced professionals from reputed developers such as 343 Industries, Riot Games, Activision Blizzard, etc.

Goldstein wrote that the goal was to craft an engaging, visually impressive game where players could make significant decisions before entering the arena. To achieve this, they brought on a squad of veteran developers. With the expanded team, they look forward to delivering a true sequel with Splitgate 2, which would be beyond a '1.5’ version of the game.

IGN has reported that the team at 1047 Games ballooned from 20 to over 170 employees during Splitgate 2's development, including developers from renowned games such as Call of Duty and God of War.

Slated for a 2025 launch, Splitgate 2 will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. 1047 Games confirmed that it will be showcased at Gamescom.
